missing something?

as a kindergarten teacher i have the privilege of looking at the calendar almost every day. some times this really is handy in helping me remember birthdays and other significant events. but this month of February has been so strange. everyday at school while we are saying the date i feel like i'm missing something.

it's the strangest feeling

new game plan

okay so i thought maybe i should try a new approach to the big sisters attitude! so we made a little behavior chart discussed it with her. she gets points when she does what she's told and i get points when she argues or whines. and then there are rewards or consequences depending on who has the most points at the end of the day.
it started out a little shaky i just wonder if its' too long term for her but she seemed to understand. the little genius that she is.
at one point today she said "mom tell me to do something" just because she wanted to rack up her points.
so i fudged a little today and let her win. i don't know about tomorrow!!

presidents day

as a tradition in our home we celebrate presidents day! we bake a cake every year and have a super fun day.

unfortunately this morning the youngest president woke up with a fever lingering at 102 and at his request we stayed home today.
even though the poor thing hasn't ate much of anything today he still wanted us to make a cake. so i tried and pretty much failed at making a penny cake. yes this cake could be posted on cake wrecks. never the less here is a picture or two.

but mom...

in our home we have the rule that if the children throw major fits they loose a toy.
so this morning the blow up was something about cleaning her room. big sister threw herself on the floor thrashing around. kicking the closet door in obvious attempt to break something and as a result she lost her computer for the day. when i told her this she said
"but mom this is the year of giving"
so clever and yet she still doesn't get the computer back
