what's that word
teacher, what is that word that we learned the other day, was it cinnamon or skittles?
I'm not sure what word your talking about? was it one of our vocabulary word?
no we talked about it when we were talking about jolly and merrily. Was it skittles or cinnamon?
do you mean when two words mean the same thing? that's a synonym!

scary dream
we were on a family vacation or something i'm not sure where we were, somewhere we have never been, we walked to the edge of cliff usually i'm pretty nervous with the kids about things like this and i was but for some reason i let them walk right to the edge. the first time little brother almost fell off but we grabbed him in the nick of time. a second later he the rocks under his feet gave way and he fell 40 plus feet on to rocks below. i screamed, then stared in shock at my babies body on the rocks below. but then the unthinkable, he stood up, without even crying and started to climb back up the rocks. it was very very strange. next there were news reports, replays of the falling.
i was glad to wake up from that dream

three little words
WHAT'S FOR DINNER???
i really don't like that question!
i think i might like it if i was the one asking it everyday instead of answering it. sometimes i think planning ahead gives me more of a headache then not for example tonight the menu said Chicken and Rice, i'm sure when i wrote it i thought i'd be making the soup but well i really wasn't in the mood for soup or anything for that matter so we made Hawaiian haystacks (rice, chicken, pineapple, cheese, cream of chicken). which were yummy but the work that goes into making dinner sometimes wears me out.

a mankind to be proud of
In college we stood on the edge of our couch with wooden spoon microphones and recited these verse!
i love these words they make me want to break out the wooden spoons again!
Bring me men to match my plains;
Men with empires in their purpose
And new eras in their brains.
Bring me men to match my mountains,
Bring me men to match my plains;
Men to chart a starry empire,
Men to make celestial claims.
Bring me men to match my prairies,
Men to match my inland seas;
Men to sail beyond my oceans,
Reaching for the galaxies.
These are men to build a nation,
Join the mountains to the sky;
Men of faith and inspiration,
Bring me men, bring me men, bring me men!
Bring me men to match my forests,
Bring me men to match my shore;
Men to guard the mighty ramparts,
Men to stand at freedom's door.
Bring me men to match my mountains,
Men to match their majesty;
Men to climb beyond their summits,
Searching for their destiny.

simplified
Little brother had a talk to give today in Primary. So we wrote it up (pictures and all that are not included below) practiced it several times, he was prepared.
Jesus is my Savior and Redeemer
once there was a Shepard who had 100 sheep
one day one of the sheep was lost
so the Shepard went to look for the lost sheep
when he found him he carried him home
Jesus is the Shepard
He loves us and will carry us home
Jesus is my Savior and Redeemer
He stood up and said
"Jesus is my Savior and Redeemer"
then he sat back down!

A Crisis
Idaho continues to sit in the ranks of states that are cutting and continue to cut funding for public education. the president of the school boards association yesterday said, it's not as bad as some states he quoted Oregon as having been cut up to 30% and Arizona has also see cuts of 20%!
i do feel the pain of the times, and cutting budgets around the country is a very real thing, the difference and the reason i think Idahos cut of nearly 10% is significant is because Idaho is already 47th in the nation in funding for public education. it's like something i said before. ..
the good thing about living in a budget is that when times get tough you don't have to give up a lot the bad thing about living in a budget, when times get tough there's not a lot to give up. so now that we are working on a bare bones budget, i'm not sure what goes next a femur or two!
just something to think about!!

got the giggles
one of the ways i keep my kindergartners engaged in the learning is by using their names. i think they finally caught on to what i was doing. today while we were practicing the names of the letters a few of them instead of saying the first letter said the name of a student in our class. i thought it may have been an accident till the next letter when almost every student said someones name when i pointed to the next letter! they proceeded to go through the list of everyone in the class. i couldn't help myself i had to laugh. I love Kindergarten!!

one night
one night a few best friends we camping out in the back of a pick-up truck. they we're talking about all the thing that teenage girls talk about, laughing and giggling as girls do. the conversation turned serious for a moment the question "if you could have one super power or thing you could change about this world what would it be.
one friend wished that money was no object, so that the stresses that come from having little to no money would be swept away. not so that she could buy the world but that there were no more hungry children, stresses moms and dads who have to work endless hours instead of spending time with their children.
the other friend wished for the ability to stop time. in order to achieve everything in the day that was necessary. a clean house, homework, scripture study, laundry, and any other of the millions of necessary tasks that there is not quite time for.
if the other friends remember more please comment! and if you weren't there but have a comment please share

big vs. little
one day two big people, who were suppose to know everything, were talking
one said to the other "what are these for? how do you use them?"
the other said "i don't know, i've never used them before"
and the little people (who are often told by the big two people that they know nothing) laugh and cry at the thought that the big people really don't know anything and the little people are truly geniuses
if you could follow that then you can be in the cool little people club!!!

- we gave kisses
- now we are going to bed

I've read this scripture at least a dozen times before but today it meant more to me then ever before so I wanted to share
"And the Messiah cometh in the fulness of time, that he may redeem the children of men from the fall. And because that they are redeemed from the fall they have become free forever, knowing good from evil; to act for themselves and not to be acted upon, save it be by the punishment of the law at the great and last day, according to the commandments which God hath given."

a little freaked out
friday in one of our meetings for teacher in-sevice the tech guy at our school talked to us about WEB 2.0 and the Human Firewall. I've had my fair share of being freaked out about having a blog, being on facebook, using YouTube, even having my picture show up if someone Googles my name.
anyhow i came changed all my passwords, and cleaned out my friend list on Facebook.
i'm not so freaked out today

teacher inservice
this morning when big sister woke up she looked sad,
i asked her what was the matter,
she said "i don't what you to go to work."
"why?"
"because when your at work dad is mean to us."
"How is he mean to you?"
"He makes us play with our toys and we can't watch TV all day"
"That is soo mean, i know we could get rid of all your toys then you wouldn't have to play with them"
She didn't like that idea.

good times!!
i admit that i'm a little obsessive about this dale-chall list. it's a list of 3000 words that a child should know when they get to kindergarten, assuming their parents talk to them. so i wanted to see how well the presidents knew these words.
The GAME - Use this Word (aka-moms a freak)
The Rules- use the word that you are given in a sentence, each word used correctly gets a point, the person with the most points at the end of the game is the winner!
we only got through the "a" words (126 words) towards the end we went really fast and skipped a few words that i knew they would know for sure.
a few of the funny sentences i got,
"I auto go to the store"
"I was army-ed by a real vampire"
"I was aged by four"
"An apron is something that comes out of the printer"
"I have a head ache, I really have one from all of these sentences"
words to work on
arithmetic
arise
accounted
anyhow
auto
automobile
arrange
avenue
acre
ashes
admire

old age?
so with this self given challenge to blog everyday, i am having lots of fun experiences with funny things that kindergartners and the presidents say, with annoying things that should just be shared, with frustration and excitement. you get the picture anyhow, everyday i dare say at least 3 times a day i think i should blog about that, that was funny, remember that so you can blog about it when you get home. i remember those thoughts but never what i was going to blog about. maybe i should write them down. it's a matter of timing i guess.
one wrestling comment they are learning single and double-leg take-downs, Little brother INSISTS that they are double-egg take downs, oh and that his mom knows nothing about wrestling! gotta love that independence

superbowl
we had the superbowl on in the background of life today. we dehydrated apples, baked brownies, and played games. we actually didn't sit down and watch any of the game until the last quarter. big sister said "mom, football is boring, i don't even know what's happening"
little brother said "i'm never going to play football"
I kinda told them the basics of football and by the end of the game
big sister said "i love football, when can we go to a game?"
the presidents really are quite funny

love songs
on the way to school this morning
big sister said, "mom, i really don't like love songs"
so i changed the station.
then she said, "well i like 'love at home', but all those other love songs on the radio that other people sing, i just don't really like them. I mean like one or two a day is enough for a day but that's it."

time off? pretty please with sugar on top!!!
I have come to accept the chances of having school release this year for a snow day are about 0% so i was thinking how about another sick day??
Today our school secretary came to my room to ask me how i was feeling and if i planned on being at school tomorrow. I said i was fine other then my nightmare of being attacked by kindergartners. We laughed and i assured her that i would be at school in the morning. Well turns out several teachers are feeling pretty sick and won't be at school in the morning. We also have quite a few students out sick.
I told the secretary she could add my name to the list of sickies if it would mean a SICK DAY tomorrow!!

only getting started
some days i think of my heroes and think wow, what great women
i aspire to be like them,
thus far in my quest here are a few of the skills i think i have acquired
the ability to look at all sides of an issue
the ability to say just the right thing to get what i want
the ability to sound intelligent enough for people to listen to me
the ability to walk away from a fight i'm not going to win
the ability to stand up for what I believe
the ability to laugh when things don't go the way i feel they should
yes it's very fine being twenty-nine

good advice?
This is an actually quote from my dream last night. Before you read it, know that i do not agree with it. i feel that a young woman should go to college, learn about herself, her dreams, her desires. she should also make a list of necessary qualities in a spouse long before she gets serous with anyone person. this list should be extensive and comprehensive. Then and most importantly she shouldn't let anyone tell her "what she wants." she should be able to tell the world what she wants with full confidence!!!
"Honey, you think you know what you want, you think you want to go off to college meet a nice guy who will sweep you off out feet, pamper you, and care for you. You don't know what you want. The right guy is right here waiting for you, you may have known him your whole life, but are just to blind or stubborn to see he is the ONE for you."
DON'T listen to them Honey live your dreams!!
